TO ALL IAM & AW MEMBERS – LOCAL LODGE 16
EMPLOYED BY G4S – VANCOUVER
SHOP STEWARD – NOMINATIONS/ELECTIONS
A Shop Steward’s most important role is to enforce the Collective Agreement, deal with complaints and settle grievances. However, a Union is more than grievances and a Shop Steward must be more than a grievance processor. A Shop Steward must be an Organizer, an Educator, a Leader, a Communicator and a sounding board for the Membership.
Keeping in mind the many roles and responsibilities of a Shop Steward, we invite the Membership to nominate/elect Shop Stewards, for a two (2) year term commencing June 1, 2012, who demonstrate these qualities in the workplace.
In order to ensure equitable access to Shop Steward representation, nominations will be accepted by work location and classification, as follows:
Screening Officers:
- PBS – Main Terminal – 25 Positions
- HBS – Main Terminal – 8 Positions
- PBS & HBS – South Terminal – 1 Position
Point Leads:
- PBS – Main Terminal – 2 Positions
- HBS – Main Terminal – 1 Position
Nominees must be Members in good standing and be prepared to commit to fulfilling all of the roles and responsibilities of a Shop Steward, as determined by the Local Lodge.
Nomination forms are available at the Local Lodge 16 offices, located on the 4th floor of the Domestic Terminal Building, room 4212. The form must be completed by the Nominator and the Nominee including name, signature and applicable work location and/or classification.
Nominations will close on Monday, May 14, 2012 and all nomination forms must be returned to the Local Lodge 16 offices no later than 15:00.
In the event elections are required, they will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 and on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 (polling hours to be determined) at the Local Lodge 16 Boardroom in the Domestic Terminal Building. If insufficient Shop Stewards are nominated/elected to a particular work location, point or classification, it may be necessary for the Trustee to appoint Shop Stewards in consultation with the Shop Committee, to ensure reasonable access to representation at each work location and within each classification.
Training will be scheduled following the conclusion of the nomination/election process.
In solidarity,
