The Canadian General Vice-President, Brother Dave Ritchie, attended the Local Lodge 16 Executive and Regular Monthly Meetings on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, in Vancouver.
The meetings resulted in a commitment from Brother Ritchie to recommend to the International President that Local Lodge 16 emerge from Trusteeship.
The first step in ensuring the success of the Local’s emergence from Trusteeship is to ensure the financial stability of the Local Lodge.
Accordingly, effective April 1, 2012, the Local Lodge’s Union Dues formula will be amended as follows:
- The dues will be equal to the minimum monthly dues as established yearly, effective January 1st by Transportation District 140, plus .5% (1/2 of one per cent) of gross monthly earnings for all employees earning $15.00 per hour or greater or a .25% (1/4 of one percent) of gross monthly earnings for all employees earning less than $15.00 per hour.
Note: The minimum monthly dues, established by Transportation District 140, effective January 1, 2012 is $48.55.
The Union understands the recovery of unpaid dues from November 1, 2011, for those members employed by G4S would result in a financial hardship for many.
Accordingly, we will not be recovering any retroactive union dues during the period of representation, between November 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012.
Bylaws will be in place upon the emergence from Trusteeship, with the approval of the International President.
A Local Lodge 16 election will take place on June 19, 2012 to fill the vacant Executive Board positions of Secretary Treasurer, one (1) Trustee, and one (1) Audit Committee position for the balance of the current term, which terminates on December 31, 2013.
Further details will be provided by bulletin to all bargaining units of the Local Lodge, outlining the process, requirements and dates.
Shop Steward nominations/elections for the G4S Bargaining Unit at Vancouver International Airport will take place in April 2012 with training to follow. A communication will follow early next week outlining the details on this issue.
