Swearing in the team for a #BetterBC
More than ever, our province needs a strong, stable, and compassionate government. We’re committed to keeping people safe and leading British Columbians out of the COVID-19 pandemic – and building BC back stronger and better than before. On Tuesday, 57 BC NDP MLAs were sworn in. And on Thursday, our new Cabinet was also sworn in. With this historic team, which reflects the diversity and resilience of British Columbians unlike any BC government before it, we’re in a position to spend the next four years building a recovery that benefits all the people of BC. As Premier John Horgan said: “In electing this exceptional group of New Democrats, British Columbians gave us their trust to help them through the pandemic and lead our province’s recovery.” If you agree, send congratulations to your newly elected BC NDP team – and let them know you’re with them. We recently put out a call asking folks to send former Deputy Premier Carole James their messages of thanks, to mark her retirement from public office. And more than 7,800 of you did!
We received some beautiful and inspiring messages, like this one from Suzanne in Vancouver: “You epitomize brilliant leadership, grace, wisdom, resilience, and courage – and a commitment to taking the high road in service of making the world better.” Want to read more messages sent to Carole from supporters, friends, and colleagues? Then take a look at this new blog post. This is the time of year that we all start making our holiday plans. Of course, holiday planning will look very different this time, as people do what they can to keep their families safe. When making your plans, please take a moment to check they’re in line with the recent provincial health orders.
Let’s all try to be like the girl who wrote Premier John Horgan, asking if her “elf on the shelf” – sent by Santa to make sure she’s being good – would be allowed in her family’s social bubble. Help us spread a little early festive cheer by sharing the Premier’s response on Twitter. With people across the world impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s vital that we take this opportunity to empathize with the millions of people still dealing with the effects of the HIV and AIDS pandemic.
This coming Tuesday is World AIDS Day and December 1-5 marks Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week. Please, take some time to learn about how HIV/AIDS still impacts so many people. There are a number of BC-based events coming up online to help spread awareness of the ongoing global impact. To learn more, visit the Pacific AIDS Network’s website. See you again soon! |
