Building a #BetterBC
Rental supplement applications open

The economic impact of COVID-19 has made it hard for many people to pay their rent. That’s why we’ve introduced the Temporary Rental Supplement, which provides financial support of up to $500 for three months.

Applications for this supplement are now open. If you’ve been impacted and think you may be eligible, learn more and apply today at the BC Housing website.

Safe shelter for the most vulnerable

Vulnerable people in the community need our support to stay safe during this crisis – so, on Tuesday, we announced a partnership with the hotel industry, local governments, and non-profits. So far, we’ve confirmed 900 spaces in 23 sites to help folks self-isolate.

These spaces will be available to people experiencing homelessness, those without a safe place to stay, and folks who have COVID-19 and need somewhere to recover in isolation.

More help to keep families secure

As Premier John Horgan said: “All of us are in this together.” That means everyone working together to get BC and Canada through this crisis.

John’s team is coordinating with the federal government to ensure support is offered to those in need – and to make sure people know what kind of help is available.

Our federal partners are offering the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, which provides folks economically impacted by COVID-19 with financial support for up to 16 weeks.

Wishing you a happy and safe weekend

This long weekend will look a little different for people in BC. Instead of gathering in-person with friends and family, we’ll find other ways to mark this weekend while protecting our health and the health of those close to us.

To the Jewish community celebrating Passover and the Christian community celebrating Easter, have a happy and safe holiday. Please stay home this weekend – unless, like the Easter Bunny, you have a special eggs-emption.

Have you thanked essential workers?

Workers in healthcare, retail, and other essential services are doing incredible frontline work to get us all through this crisis – and the province is seeing a remarkable outpouring of gratitude.

We’re collecting messages of thanks from people across BC and publishing them on our website and social media. Will you add your message of thanks today?
