NOMINATION NOTICE – LOCAL LODGE 16
ELECTION – JANUARY 17, 2017
CHIEF SHOP STEWARD – SWISSPORT
Further to the Local Lodge Bulletins dated November 16, 2016, nominations are called for the positions of Chief Shop Steward for the Swissport Bargaining Unit.
Prior to commencement of Collective Bargaining each Bargaining Unit (Swissport and Servisair) had one (1) fulltime Chief Shop Steward position.
With the consolidation of these two (2) bargaining units, there was uncertainty as to the retention of both positions during Collective Bargaining, however, the tentative agreement reached on Thursday, November 10, 2016, provides for the continuation of two (2) fulltime bargaining unit representatives, provided the membership numbers remain above four hundred and fifty (450) members.
Accordingly, Local Lodge 16 sought dispensation from the IAMAW Canadian Office in order to have nominations and elections occur for two (2) full-time bargaining unit representative positions, with nominees from either bargaining unit being eligible, subject to other Bylaw and Constitutional requirements be met, as communicated in the election notices.
The candidate that obtains the highest number of votes in the election would be declared the Chief Shop Steward and the candidate obtaining the second highest number of votes in the election being declared the Shop Committee Representative. This structure is supported by the Local Lodge Bylaws, under Article 6, Section D. 
Should the bargaining unit membership totals fall below the threshold of four hundred and fifty (450), it is the Shop Committee Representative that would revert to working at their normal bargaining unit classification/position, however, they continue to hold the position of Shop Committee Representative.
Nominations will close with the adjournment of the Local Lodge 16 meeting on December 6, 2016.
