Minister Garneau wants to hear from you on facebook Live! ( English / French )

Facebook Live!

Minister Garneau wants to hear from you on Facebook live with French session being held on June 15th and the English on June 16thThursday at 6:30 p.m. (ET) to know what you would do to improve the Canadian passenger experience if you were in his shoes. Details can be found in the attached invitation and we ask that you share with your networks.”

I asked whom the intended audience is to participate, and they are saying anyone in Canada.  It is being  advertised all over the social media.  I have attached a poster on this email which was sent to me so you understand how to participate.

The Canadian IAMAW office is asking that you participate and also ask members who are active in your work areas to participate and deliver a strong unified message to Minister Garneau.

I have three strong messages for you to deliver so that our message is clear and strong.  I am sure you can expand on the items below.

  1. Contract flipping –

a- its effects on our members where they lose hard earned wage increases, benefits and the loss of job security all of which play havoc with their families and reduces job productivity,

B- its effect on the companies they work for by not being able to show the passengers and the airport authorities that they can provide a good service and do the work properly,

Solutions –

a- push the need to have more accountability at airport authorities by having a stronger labour voice at the executive board levels

b- The $15 and fairness campaign and how the government should look at this initiative seriously as a way to address the above problems

  1. Airport security
  2. Longer and longer line ups during busy travel periods with complaints from passengers and stress on screeners while doing their jobs (3.5% increase each year)
  3. Passenger levels growing every year

Solutions –

  1. Divert all monies collected from every passenger ticket to properly operate the security screening at each airport in Canada
  2. Hire more screeners so that line ups can be further reduced and increase staff levels in line with passenger growth.
  3. Labour voice to Government and Airport Officials
  4. Our concerns go unheard at floor level
  5. We hear and see what happens daily while we work at the airport and deal with passengers

Solutions –

  1. Labours voice needs to be consulted on a regular basis
  2. IAMAW can be more effective by providing feedback and solutions to government and airport officials at a high level to prevent and resolve issues
  3. IAMAW is the largest union representing air transport workers in Canada and the USA
  4. A happy worker is likely to produce a happy passenger if we all work together
