On October 18th 2011, five women from Alberta nicknamed the “famous five” fought a legal and political battle for the right of women to be recognized as “persons” under the British National Act (BNA). These five empowering women where Emily Murphy, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby. The battle these brave women fought and changed the Canadian political and legal landscape forever. This case referred to as the “persons case” is a milestone in Canadian political history.
