SECURE AVIATION TRANSPORT LOCAL LODGE 16 – TRUSTEE ELECTION ERROR

TRUSTEE ELECTION ERROR

Regretfully, I have to inform our membership that an error occurred in the Local Lodge 16 Executive Board Election held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 on the Trustee Ballot.

The ballot contained the name of one (1) candidate who was ineligible for nomination in accordance with the provisions of the IAM Constitution. The error was discovered following the election as a result of a complaint filed by a member of Local Lodge 16, challenging the eligibility of the candidate.imagesCAWTE1DQ

This meant that the ballot provided to our members contained five (5) candidates for the Trustee positions and should only have contained the names of four (4) candidates.

As the Deputy of Local Lodge 16 I take full responsibility for this error and offer my sincere apologies to the membership and especially to the candidates, who stood for election to the Trustee positions.

Accordingly, Local Lodge 16 is left with no other choice except to rerun the election for the two (2) Trustee positions. This is the only way to preserve the integrity of this election process and ensure the final results are both fair and accurate.

Additionally, one (1) of the eligible candidates on the Trustee ballot has chosen to withdraw their nomination from the re-election process.

I have spoken with Canadian General Vice President Dave Ritchie and informed him of the error and the requirement to rerun the election for the two (2) Trustee positions and he has given his approval for the re-election process.

The deadline to submit applications for absentee ballots will be Monday, February 16, 2014.

The re-election for the two (2) Trustee positions will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

The remaining three (3) duly nominated candidates for the Trustee positions will remain as the only candidates in the re-election. A new election and absentee ballot application bulletin will be posted by the Local Lodge on the website and notice boards. It will contain all of the necessary information, including polling hours, location and the process for absentee ballots.

Please ensure you monitor the notice boards and website for information and please vote in the re-election. Once again, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to our members and our candidates.

Respectfully,

Tania Canniff, Deputy

Local Lodge 16 IAM & AW
