The IAM Local 16 Executive Board embarked on a comprehensive site visit to the YLW Kelowna base, marking a milestone in our ongoing commitment to transparency and member engagement. Leading the delegation was IAM L16 President Brother Rick Singh, accompanied by Secretary Treasurer Brother Neil Chia, Conductor Sentinel and Communicator Brother John Vincent, and Line Trustee Brother Matt Sergent from the YYJ Victoria base, along with IAM International Representative Steve Prinz.
We extend special thanks to YLW Kelowna base’s Chief Shop Steward Brother Patrick McCoy and YLW Shop Steward Brother Gary Fauvelle, whose support and coordination were instrumental in facilitating meaningful interactions across the base.
Throughout the day, our team connected with a wide spectrum of union members, engaging in robust discussions centered on the union’s structure, operational levels, and internal processes. Members openly shared their insights and concerns—from workplace challenges and safety protocols to clarity in union representation—thereby offering us a candid look at the issues that matter most on the ground. These real-life stories and practical concerns underscore the union’s responsibility to act decisively in addressing both immediate and long-term challenges.
This visit was more than a routine check-in; it was a dynamic exchange of ideas where every conversation served as a catalyst for change. With every discussion, we reinforced our commitment to ensuring that every member’s voice is not only heard but also acted upon. By directly addressing topics such as improving safety standards, refining union processes, and enhancing member support systems, we are laying the groundwork for a more responsive and inclusive future. The feedback we received has already set the stage for a series of follow-up initiatives aimed at tackling these issues head-on.
The insights gained during this visit are proving invaluable as we work to strengthen our bonds of brotherhood. Moving forward, the Executive Board is dedicated to implementing new strategies that reflect the diverse perspectives of our membership.
In closing, we express our heartfelt thanks to all those who took the time to engage with us. Your candid feedback, deep-rooted experiences, and passionate commitment to our union’s values are what make IAM Local 16 resilient and forward-thinking. As we move ahead, we will continue to build on this momentum, fostering an even stronger, more united community focused on a safer, fairer, and more promising future for every member.
