IAM members rally for fairness at Vancouver Airport<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vancouver, B.C. \u2013 IAM Screening Officers at YVR Airport are rallying today for better wages and less pressure-filled working conditions in the midst of growing lineups and passenger frustrations at the airport.<\/p>\n

The rally by IAM Local Lode 16 members will continue until 4:00 PM Pacific Time outside the International Arrivals Area. The Screening Officers, who are gathering on their own time, are encouraging the travelling public and former Screening Officers to join them and share their stories with the media. Their main purpose is the educate the flying public about their working conditions.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Screening Officers have been chronically short-staffed since travel has increased due to many restrictions being dropped. The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority\u00a0(CATSA), along with airlines and airport authorities<\/p>\n

Dave Flowers, President of IAM District Lodge 140, representing 4,000 Screening Officers in B.C. and Ontario said, \u201cThe hiring currently being done simply isn\u2019t enough. The turnover in the staff is making it difficult to deal with the staffing shortage.\u201d<\/p>\n

The day has been successful at achieving our goals and more will be planned in the near future.<\/p>\n
