They did it! We did it!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/a>Premier John Horgan and Labour Minister Harry Bains kept their promise to BC\u2019s lowest-paid workers \u2014 and increased the minimum wage.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s more important today than ever. The pandemic pay increase and other temporary improvements to working conditions can help in the short term. But if we want to make a lasting difference, what we really need are permanent, fair wages.<\/p>\n

Share your support for today\u2019s increase on\u00a0Facebook<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And then congratulate yourself. This is happening because you and people like you campaigned so effectively together. We changed the narrative \u2014 and now the majority of British Columbians agree we must do more to support our lowest-paid workers. BC\u2019s minimum wage increases to $14.60\/hr today, and it\u2019ll go up to $15.20 next June.<\/p>\n

While today\u2019s lift is a big victory, it\u2019s just one step on the path to an economic recovery that lifts up all of us. Because we not only need fair wages, but also paid sick leave, access to minimum employment standards for gig and precarious workers, and economic policies that make sure women, Indigenous people and people of colour aren\u2019t left behind.<\/p>\n

The BC Federation of Labour is continuing to advocate for polices that will make a real difference in people\u2019s lives. We know we can\u2019t go back to the old normal. It\u2019s time for our province to build a future that works for all of us.<\/p>\n

Again, show your support for increasing the minimum wage on\u00a0Facebook<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Twitter<\/a>. Low-wage workers need to know we\u2019re with them.<\/p>\n
