Whether they\u2019re providing healthcare or stocking supermarket shelves, essential workers are doing incredible work on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis. It\u2019s time to say a big THANK YOU!<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t thank them all in person, so let\u2019s do it online. If you haven\u2019t already, send a message of thanks and we\u2019ll feature as many as possible on our website and in our social media.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Premier John Horgan gave a televised address to update British Columbians about our latest action on COVID-19 and urge people to play their part over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Premier Horgan: \u201cWe\u2019re seeing signs that our actions are starting to make a difference. We can\u2019t stop now. It\u2019s time for everyone to do their part to save lives and flatten the curve.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe may be separated, but we are not alone. All of us are in this together. I\u2019m asking every British Columbian to recommit to beating COVID-19. Do your part. Stay home. Stay safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The COVID-19 crisis is seriously impacting the economic security of many British Columbians. Your BC NDP government is rolling out a series of measures to help those affected. On Wednesday, the government announced relief for BC Hydro customers.<\/p>\n

People who have had their incomes impacted are being offered a credit to help cover the cost of their electricity bills, which does not have to be repaid. Small businesses forced to close will have their power bills forgiven for three months.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It\u2019s vital to ensure the most vulnerable people in our province aren\u2019t exposed to new risks during the COVID-19 crisis. That\u2019s why we\u2019ve announced emergency supports for people on income or disability assistance, as well as for low-income seniors.<\/p>\n

Shane Simpson, Social Development Minister: \u201cThis is a stressful time for everyone, but for those struggling to put food on the table at the best of times, it is important that we ensure there are no additional barriers to get what they need to keep themselves and their families safe and healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
