The RCMP and Workers\u2019 Compensation Board are investigating both tragedies. <a href=\"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bcfed130.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1551\" src=\"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bcfed130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"130\" height=\"126\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bcfed130.jpg 130w, https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bcfed130-60x58.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 130px) 100vw, 130px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe extend our condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of the two workers who died on the job,\u201d says Lanzinger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll workers must enjoy the basic right to be safe on the job and to come home safely to their families at the end of their shift. But these two deaths\u2014along with a third involving a Victoria construction workers two weeks ago\u2014are a sign that more needs to be done to protect workers,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur view is that government and employers aren\u2019t doing enough to keep workers safe on the job,\u201d Lanzinger says. \u201cHealth and safety protections are weak and not always rigorously enforced. Worker safety is being compromised.
