Talks began today between the IAM and Garda for Toronto while bargaining with G4S for the Pacific Region will take place later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Pacific Region which is operated by G4S and the Toronto airports which are operated by Garda are two different companies, many of the problems are the same. \u201cThe Harper government has short changed the travelling public by more than $103 million last year, \u201c said IAM Canadian General Vice President Dave Ritchie. \u201cThis continues a trend that has put in excess of $200 million into government coffers since 2010. The monies collected on every airline ticket for security should be used for security and not to fund other government pet projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone who travels by air in this country has experienced long lineups at Airport Security,\u201d said Ritchie. \u201cThis leads to frustration of the passengers who then take their anger out on the screeners who are there to protect them. Les n\u00e9gociations ont \u00e9t\u00e9 entam\u00e9es aujourd\u2019hui entre l\u2019AIM et Garda pour les membres en poste \u00e0 Toronto. Quant \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion du Pacifique, les n\u00e9gociations d\u00e9buteront avec G4S plus tard dans le mois.<\/p>\n<p>Bien que les a\u00e9roports de la r\u00e9gion du Pacifique et ceux de Toronto soient exploit\u00e9s par deux entreprises diff\u00e9rentes (G4S et Garda respectivement), plusieurs des enjeux sont les m\u00eames. \u00ab Le gouvernement Harper a flou\u00e9 le public voyageur de plus de 103 millions de dollars l\u2019an dernier, affirme Dave Ritchie, vice-pr\u00e9sident g\u00e9n\u00e9ral canadien de l\u2019AIM. Cela s\u2019inscrit dans une tendance ayant permis au gouvernement de renflouer ses coffres de plus de 200 millions de dollars depuis 2010. Les montants per\u00e7us sur la vente de chaque billet d\u2019avion \u00e0 des fins de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 doivent \u00eatre d\u00e9pens\u00e9s sur des mesures de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Ces montants ne doivent pas servir \u00e0 financer d\u2019autres projets chers au gouvernement. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Quiconque voyage par avion au pays a d\u00e9j\u00e0 eu \u00e0 composer avec de longues fils d\u2019attente aux points de contr\u00f4le, ajoute M. Ritchie. Cela est frustrant pour les passagers, qui ventilent sur le dos des agents de contr\u00f4le dont le travail consiste \u00e0 veiller \u00e0 leur s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Les usagers du transport a\u00e9rien n\u2019obtiennent ni les services ni la protection pour lesquels ils paient.
