For our union this means mainly airline and airport workers.\u00a0 These changes were introduced as part of an \u201comnibus\u201d bill (C-4) with hundreds of unrelated provisions to other Acts, so that it would pass with little or no public scrutiny. <a href=\"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/untitleddcd.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2295\" src=\"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/untitleddcd.png\" alt=\"untitleddcd\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/untitleddcd.png 225w, https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/untitleddcd-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/untitleddcd-60x60.png 60w, https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/untitleddcd-200x200.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>C-4 narrows the definition of \u201cdanger\u201d in the Canada Labour Code to make it harder for workers to refuse to work in proximity to toxic chemicals or radiation, particularly when it will cause chronic conditions or damage the reproductive system.\u00a0 It gets rid of government health and safety officers, and gives the federal Labour Minister final say on whether to even investigate an unsafe workplace.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Even though no credible stakeholders called for these changes, the Harper Conservatives are doing favours for the bosses who they represent, by weakening workers\u2019 right to refuse unsafe working conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where:<\/strong>\u00a0At the ballot box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When: <\/strong>In 2015, at the next federal election, we need to elect a Canadian government that will reverse these unfair changes, and work to make our workplaces safer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Fightback-_8rev.pdf\">https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Fightback-_8rev.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harper Conservatives Attack Workplace Health and Safety Who:The Harper Conservative federal government What:\u00a0 Have introduced changes to the federal labour [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2340","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2340","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=2340"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2340\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=2340"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=2340"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=2340"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
