{"id":7,"date":"2011-09-01T20:06:06","date_gmt":"2011-09-01T20:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamawll16.wordpress.com\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2023-06-16T22:57:34","modified_gmt":"2023-06-17T05:57:34","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iamaw16.ca\/?page_id=7","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Secure Aviation Transport Local Lodge 16<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Local Lodge 16 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers is an affiliate of District Lodge 140 and was chartered on 1 October, 1998.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we are better known as either the &#8220;IAM&#8221; or &#8220;The Machinists&#8221;. We represent over 1500 working men and women in the air transportation sector in B.C.<\/p>\n<p>Local Lodge 16 represent aircraft mechanics, ground handlers, cabin services agents, customer service agents, air terminal services and pre-board screeners.<\/p>\n<p>Changes in our industry happen quickly and continuously, 9\/11. Privatization of airports, mergers of companies and global alliances of the largest transportation companies in the world drive the need for worker protection.<\/p>\n<p>The best protection and service to the workers in our industry is achieved under coordinated efforts from the transportation community as a whole; but not pitting workers from various companies against each other.<\/p>\n<p><strong>United we bargain, divided we beg.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We represent many members at many different workplaces doing a variety of things.
