Talks with Pacific Region Pre-board Screeners stalled!

Vancouver, BC – “Bargaining is at an impasse,” explained IAM Transportation District 140 General Chairperson Tania Canniff. “The company, G4S Secure Solutions Canada Limited, won’t meet with us unless we drop all of our financial demands outside of the company-proposed wage increases and we’re not able to do that.”
IAM Local Lodge 16 represents 1350 airport pre-board screeners throughout British Columbia at eleven bargaining units. Bargaining began on February 27, 2018 for a combined total of 44 days of direct bargaining, conciliation and mediation. Mediation ended on October 21st.
Local Lodge 16 Negotiations Committee met internallyand responded to the company on December 12th advising it wasprepared to resume bargaining on December 17 and 18, 2018 and into January. “Wehave been trying to resume discussions with the company but they will only meeton the condition that the Union removes and/or withdraws all of its monetaryitems outside of the company proposed wage increases,” said Canniff. “How isthat bargaining in good faith?”
IAM Local Lodge 16 conducted a strike vote on December4th and 7th, 2018 commencing with the Vancouver bargaining unit,resulting in a 99 per cent strike mandate. The vote gives the Negotiating Committee a very clear mandate tocontinue bargaining and the IAM is asking the Company to listen to itshard-working employees and get back to the bargaining table to reach a fair agreement.
