Interest Arbitration – August 15 & 16, 2012

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

union-collective-agreementAs we have previously communicated to you, we attended the Interest Arbitration on August 15 & 16, 2012 with regards to our outstanding Collective Agreement. There have been significant changes that have been ordered/agreed to in the Collective Agreement and below is a brief synopsis:

  • • Defined Part-time/ Full-time
  • • Subcontract Protection
  • • Additional Day of Bereavement Leave for Immediate Family
  • • Improved Restrictions on Shift Modifications
  • • Protected Shift Give Away and Trade Privileges
  • • Introduced Vacation Bid Language and Improved Vacation Provisions
  • • Additional Day of Paid Sick Leave and Improved Sick Leave Provisions
  • • Reimbursement for CATSA Required Medical Documentation and/or Certificates
  • • Protected Benefit Coverage/Levels and Extended Benefit Coverage for 90 days to Laid Off employees
  • • IAM & AW Multi-Employer Pension Fund at 4% (effective April 1, 2013) with no obligatory employee contribution
  • • COLA, VRSC Improvements – Formula Wage Rate Increased Annually
  • • Wage Increases as follows:
    • 1.5% October 1, 2012
    • 2.0% April 1, 2013
    • 2.5% April 1, 2014
  • 3-year deal expiring March 31, 2015

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Negotiating Committee for all their hard work and dedication throughout this difficult process. The Committee fought hard to improve your work rules over the last year. We are now setting up training sessions for the Chief Stewards throughout the region. The Committee is currently reviewing all documents and are preparing a detailed snapshot of the changes to your Collective Agreement. We will have more information coming shortly.
