Urgent: Support Workers Who Face Abuse On The Job

Support Workers Who Face Abuse On The Job

Did you know that over 175,000 people in Canada work in call centres, including over 10,000 Steelworker members?

They take calls from customers, day in and day out. They answer questions about billing. They provide technical support over the phone. They help find the best deals for customers and their needs. But despite all of that, they are often subjected to verbal abuse, harassment, racism and violent words from customers?

Walter you’ve taken action in the past to support workers, please watch and support call centre workers:

The reason we’ve made this video is to raise awareness about the impact of customer abuse on call centre workers.

Yes, we’ve all been there – angry and frustrated at a company for increasing our bills or cutting off our services. But how often do we stop to consider how the way we express our frustration could impact the frontline worker taking our call?
