Plans for Labour Day are well underway. Updates for the following were discussed at the committee meeting July 17, 2013:

CUPE BC will be sponsoring entertainment for the event. Two possible options are being decided upon: Option A – Jim Burns plus two local bands; Option B – Trooper.

CUPE Metro is sponsoring the kids’ station which will include one or two bouncy castles, races, prizes, etc.

CUPE BC will have a corn truck to give corn on the cob to event attendees.

CUPE BC is working on being able to provide a city water truck for people to fill their water bottles at the park.

CAW will be sponsoring one clown for kids’ entertainment and COPE 378 will sponsor a second clown.

HEU has a staff member who does graphic design and will produce a poster for distribution as well as a postcard for the mail-out to the surrounding area of Trout Lake.

CAW has agreed to provide volunteers for the cooking of hot dogs and has received an estimate from CLS Catering (CAW 2002 members) who can provide bagged sandwich lunches for a nominal cost of $5-$6 dollars each.

The BCFED is meeting with a representative on August 7th at Trout Lake to confirm site details.

CEP has agreed to sponsor the Carnival Band, which will play at the park during the beginning of the day.

CAW is looking into the possibility of providing shuttle buses to transfer people between the skytrain stations and the Park, and will keep the Committee informed of the result.

The speakers’ list has been narrowed down to include Irene Lanzinger from the B.C. Federation of Labour, Ken Georgetti from the CLC, Lori Mayhew or Carolynn Rice from the New Westminster & District Labour Council, an Aboriginal Welcome, and Fred Lee to MC.

The Committee has decided that with all of the food options that will be provided at the event, there is no need to invite non-union food trucks to be vendors.

Porta-Potties will be ordered through Pit Stop–four regular, four female and two wheelchair accessible units (gender neutral).

The Committee is in need of volunteers on Labour Day to help with set up and clean up of the park for activities.
